Last Night's Dream

Last night, I had a dream. Normally, my dreams will be vague and not that clear. I let it go as people say it could be due to the unfulfilled desire embedded deep within our subconscious mind. It was a distinctive one and I could wholly retrieve it in the morning. It sure had clarity in it and surprised me as it is the first of a kind happening with me. That excited me to jot it down and keep it in my diary which I can reread later.

Two people were brawling and their heated up argument disordered my sound sleep. They were pointing fingers at each other and were desperately trying to find a fault in others. What might have run down my mind to dream of something that wasn’t at all relevant to my day's activities. At times, we dream exactly about the incident that occurred during day time. This was utterly a useless dream which kept me in half-sleep.

Among the two, one face was familiar to me. The two were trying to prove each other wrong and I struggled in my sleep to keep them cool. The situation compelled me to involve, but with an intention to resolve it peacefully. I boldly intervened and politely took my time to listen to their say. I haven’t seen anyone not capable of sin in my life, so I explained to them about the imperfectness.

As I listened to them, I came to know that they share the same apartment in Thimphu as the rent is achingly high. It so happened that the man whom I found the face familiar mopped the floor using a shirt which happened to be the shirt of his housemate. The other person was frustrated with what his housemate has done. The incident has made him go red and has approached him to come up with a reason for doing so.

He was furious to find his shirt used as a mop. It may be of inferior quality, but using it as a mop is totally an insane act unless the culprit is blind and brainless was his emphatic talk in front of me. He agreed to have approached the guy with violent anger which triggered and infuriated the moper. Moper totally disagreed and complained about the ego the other person is carrying.

The shirt owner readily agreed to the accusation and harshly asked the moper to wash his shirt. I was in between them, acting vigilant and concerned. My presence there was worth it as I could at least stop them brawling like in the beginning. I expected the moper to wash it and return it to the owner, but it was utterly surprising to hear a big No from him. He stressed the ego word again to which other people had more to say if he thinks he is the ego-free guy.

The deeply agitated person says that if it was not for the ego of moper, he wouldn’t have experienced a night in the detention center which he won’t forget throughout his life. Seems like they both experienced a night in the police station after the moper had a dispute with their neighbor. The other one was taken as a witness but had to halt a night in a pathetic and malodorous room in the station. He was the one to use the shirt and come with vehement denial of washing the shirt. Someone who does wrong and commits mistakes in front of others, but never accepts his wrongdoings.

That was very much confusing as a mediator. I was relieved that my friend woke me up at the right time by banging on my door as it was already lunchtime. I am still confused about whether to say the moper or the other as the egoistic person. I still lack sound judgment. The fact that the shirt owner accepted himself as the most egoistic person could be his purposeful way of ending their dispute which I believe is a fair decision. Just wondering what could have been their reaction if the whole story was in another way.

Day's Chronicle.

12th august
My cellphone beeped and alarmed to disturb my pleasant morning sleep. I just hated the distraction and the whole idea of waking up early but was left with no option but to wake up and freshen up myself. I had a mind to pull the blanket over and sleep some more time, but had to reluctantly avert. It was 6am and I was awake early right at the dawn break when others elsewhere were still in their dreams. Every day, as soon as I am out of bed, it takes me another 10-15 minutes to get rid of my remaining sleep. I see myself on the balcony of my apartment staring into the unceasing plains. That was during the regular weekdays when college timing was at 9am. For sure, I was early today by two and a half hours.

Surprised, people around my vicinity were already at work and this made me realize how lazy I was to say that it was too early. Of all, I liked the pleasant morning breeze which kinda gave me a nostalgic vibe of my stays at home. A vegetable vendor was right in front of my door with fresh vegetables and daily newspapers were already kept near the door. As I opened the door, I could see the man going to the other apartments with a bunch of newspapers on the back of his bicycle. Most of the farmers were already into the fields, some ploughing and others spraying pesticides in the field. Perhaps, they might have started so early so as to wrap it up as early as possible and stay away from the sizzling spell of the midday heat.

I recently shifted to the outskirts of the main Vijayawada city as the place is just a walking distance from my college. Life here is totally different from ours. I see, people busier than us. They have the mind to work even for a single penny whereas we Bhutanese never care and value a coin. I now feel the pinch when I have to walk 50m from my apartment to buy water cans for drinking purposes. The ordinary tape water doesn't seem potable with a weird taste. I have seen people active until mid-night, but never thought they will be the same early morning too. Irrespective of timing, we are sure to get anything if we go out to a restaurant or a roadside Dhaba. 100 bucks can fully serve and make 5-6 people happy.

Touring the whole of India is not a problem anymore for me which I did on many occasions with my college mates. We take risks by going without any tickets in the general classification. The best part of it is we take risks and that's the greatest enjoyment.  Restaurants are plenty along the highway 24*7 with steaming Indian foods ready to be served. Of course, surrounding looks little messy with litters all around. They may be diligent to keep it clean, but it is something unquestionable considering the population. The altitude near my place reads 23m above sea level which makes the atmosphere very humid and suffocating. However, with my acceptance of the place, I take it as the place worth living as I am pursuing my studies for my own sake.

It isn't uncommon to see people defecating in the open air alongside the road. At times, the scene is just too yucky to see people all over replying to nature's call and I am with no words to manifest it descriptively. If we are to firmly believe our mythology, every day will be a bad day as such scenes are common and bound to be seen if you are out of the room. I don't mean to be contemptuous by saying all this since it is their way of life. One can either turn away by not deviating sideways from your path or get to see the worst scene of the day right in the morning. I don't consider it as a bad luck or anything, but the scene nearly puked me several times.

Divine Heaven(Village or City)

The inner instinct makes us optimistic, but being realistic helps us to understand more about life. City life, usually considered as social life is often misconstrued as real life. In reality, it has no depth in it to be rated as real life. The best part of the village is that folks are all related to one another in many ways and enjoys a life worth being called the supernal life. Anything like mishaps, everybody will be well informed and help comes in within no time.

It is utterly unjustifiable to point out the less than normal progress in the nooks and corners of our country as the main reason for the total migration of people into urban areas. Rural life, where people usually spent their entire life in the field is what I like the most. Of course, it is tedious, but we lead a life free of tension. At the end of the day, people draw out the satisfaction of the day. The quest and burning desire for a better life by leaving the grins and beautiful place deserted is the greatest mistake people usually do in the modern world.

Back in villages, everyone's place is just like your home. Being nurtured in the small village of Tashigang, I am confident enough to say it so. You have to fear about nothing and there is no risk of going out late. People in cities are more under mental pressure because of the challenging and expensive living standards. Not all are destined to lead a city life and those who mistake cities as their home are the ones who lead a pathetic life. There will be no cases of robbery, gang fights, vandalism, drug abuse, etc if they were little wise enough to take a prudent decision.

How is city life better than rural life? Every time we go out late at night, we fear notorious people in every corner of the cities and some are already the victims of their thwarted urban life. The peaceful night, which is everybody's night and needs to be respected is never taken care of by the late-night nuisance. As for rural life, I find it peaceful with no disturbances or noise pollutions. Of course, to live the reality of it isn't an easy task with tedious labor year-round. Whatsoever, happiness kicks in when we accomplish our work which gives a sense of great jubilation. To take the outcome of hard physical labor and the jubilation both in one stride is the real taste of rural life.

I cannot be biased and prevent the objective considerations and brighter part of life in the cities. The changing time unfolds the economy as a whole and people do prefer living in the cities. Migration has led to various consequences such as labor shortage in rural areas and soaring up the unemployment rate in urban areas. City life, assumed to be a comfortable life has showered a harsh reality to many migrants which they find it hard to endure and survive. There is no steady state of growth or stature maintained with some sections of people swimming in wealth while others are drowned in poverty which is the woeful plight seen in reality.

Random Post

Boys never say No to anything. Is this true in reality? I'm a little bit flummoxed as to how I should express myself. For all these years, I have been affirmative and a bit stringent in replying and dealing with the situation. At times, I say Yes! deliberately, knowing the truth behind the whole story. While with my friends and acquaintances, I might have been rowdier than any other guy. There are classes of guys whom people especially girls need to know in-depth.

Some guys are so harsh with their mates, but surprisingly, they tend to be the most modest and decent gentleman in front of girls. Some go wiser with age, but I have come across lots of people who are considerably increasing the infidelity rate nowadays. No point to blame them, God gifted everyone with the superpower to live and work on their own. It is a shame on their part to fool someone of their race.

People get hurt and so do I. In fact, the sentimentality within me makes me go to the furthest point where my emotion goes out of my control. Tears roll out of my eyes which describes mixed feelings of my life. At times, the dejected heart forces me to fuddle up the whole night with consequent fever and hangover. The worst of all, we get severely injured just because we are too much into negative traits. Life is not fair, but I must say life is the same for everyone, we get the same hangover even if we drink out of enjoyment.

Friends are so adamant in their objection to say yes to us, but they are ever ready to change their minds for girls. In many ways, girls are like pearls. Some people misuse it with the wrong intent. It is heartbreaking to read girls being physically molested by taking advantage of their innocence and this hunts me for days. When I say, Men will be Men, there are good ways of proving the true potential within us. Good intentions are not enough in the real world. All we have to do is be practical and adhere to the basic norms of life.

The descent of humanity has created fear among people. Trust has faded within the people and they are severely questioned by the injustice and the ragging human mind. Human minds are susceptible to criticism, persuasion, and more to temptations. Some are disadvantageously sidelined considering their inferiority. The distance from head to toe may vary literally in real. The earth would have been a better place if the state of extreme confusion and disorder was not at all in the people's minds.

Kid, He is just a kid.

At this point in my life, I wish I could remember the detailed incidents right from being a toddler. As an adult, I go speechless to see my young nephews and nieces always right in their own way. Spending time with the young ones has undeniably become my favorite pass time. Kids are so fun to mingle with. Their action and deeds are worth enough to keep you engaged. Their presence in the room is more than having folks around at the time when one needs them so desperately.

There is no doubt of being unsure of what they are and how they feel about themselves. Kids are smarter than us and their unexpected acts greatly surprising and astonishing. Each passing day is a new experience to them where they tend to grab and explore every little thing that they come across. The hue and cry of kids at home abuzz the whole room which is provoking, but we realize the liveliness of having children at home only in their absence.

Babysitting is an arduous task especially for boys and the work gets tougher if the little ones are too naughty and hyperactive. During my summer vacation, I had a good time with my little nephew who recently celebrated his second birthday. He never bothered who is there to look after him if he is served well and on time. The most positive and appreciative qualities of all are that he is very well disciplined for a toilet. At times, he looked tired and bored. Locked in the room up for the whole day, I once took him for a walk idly. I could never think of taking him again as he used to come to my bed at odd hours and ask me for a late-night walk.

I observed him a little hesitant in the beginning to be with me, but with time he proved very aggressive. Kids always think that they are impeccable and want the things as they wished which is sometimes very much irritating. During the first few days, he was fine watching the local Etho Meto channel and Bhutanese songs. I don't know what sidetracked his mind. He switched to a famous Chota Bheem Series. For him, it is like the series will be aired 24*7, letting me put on the TV as when he wished.

I tried explaining to him that his favorite Bheem series will be on TV at its scheduled timing and he always turned a deaf ear. In return,  uttering a sudden loud cry on top of his voice saying "Aku Bheem Tensh". I had to download the whole series of Chota Bheem and let him watch the whole day. That eased my work, he never moved an inch when his favorite cartoon series is on. Over a few week's time, we became so close and at several points, he used to come to me, hug and get back to his place. He is so fond of the series but I expect him to do different things during my next visit.

Broad Day Robbery

Thieves nowadays are getting bolder and more confident. They have become invulnerable to fear and heightened their audacity to sneak into the apartments even during day time. People remind me to be careful while being away from home. As a sojourner in their soil, they esteem us as a filthy millionaires and try in every possible way to loot our pocket money which is just enough for our living. Do we need to do the same when they come to our place? Absolutely not, we're taught to be humble and hospitable to our guests.

Those who stay in India might have known the real character of the locals. They think lame, act weird and above all, they are selfish and cunning. They never keep their words leaving us in an unease condition. Of all they taught us not to trust them for whatever reason, it may be. My apartment is housing people from different countries who are enrolled in different nearby colleges. Management tries to come up with their own set of rules and regulations for foreigners to which we never abide by. Rules have to be uniform for everyone, and the separate rule for outsiders are just too harsh for us to take in.

Laborers on the other hand-eye to get into our room during broad daylight when we are away for college. We didn't know their intentions until we lost our valuable belongings. The same person has sneaked into our room a couple of times and we came to know about it after days. One of my roommates' Micromax phone went missing for three to four days. There was nothing like force entry from the door or window, so who would think about the burglars when his phone wasn't there in his room. I tried to ring his number which said switched off and we're calm as we thought it was misplaced somewhere in our room only.

Days passed by without seeing his mobile and we were so confident that it will be somewhere in our room. Unaware of the robbery being seriously eagle-eyed on foreigners, we used to leave early for college and return late in the evening. Days later, one of the lockers in my friend's room was break opened and his mobile was missing too. The other friend who misplaced his mobile a few days back rushed to his room and got his hand to his wallet only to see it empty. I too kept a few hundred under my textbooks which wasn't there.

That just solved the mystery of the missing Micromax phone. We then realized that the phone was stolen, not misplaced, and stayed starring at each other. Out of four mobile phones in our room, the bloody burglar took two smartphones, leaving my simple Nokia and friend's Samsung phone. He proved to be the dumbest thief leaving $200 from a friend's purse and taking Indian notes. Our laptops were spared as laborers are being thoroughly checked while going out of the gate by the security guards. As expected, management was so silent though we informed about the incident right away. Later, I saw the security personnel scanning people going out from the gate which was too late as the thief might have gone out of the compound way before.

The same day, they also managed to get into one of our friend's apartment and took a cheque of Rs.20000 which she got from the Indian embassy. Actually, she promised us that she would throw a hefty party for all our friends and we were all excited about her plan. That remained as a plan as the housebreaker snatched away from her cheque. The day wasn't ours as we Bhutanese lost mobiles and cash worth 40,000/-.  We felt the pain and got gravely disturbed but consoled ourselves by saying that it is another way of effacing our ill-luck and unforeseen troubles.

Hectic Fool's month

The next 30 days are assured to be a very hectic. Everything has to be managed systematically, make up my mind and be determined. April month, which is regarded as the fools month is never going to let me feel like a one. I have to be active, toil hard and get ready for my upcoming 6 semester exams. Matter won't wrap up with this. I have to cut short my sleeping time and accustom the habit of sleeping after AM and waking up as early as possible.

At this time of the year, people are supposed to be in the state of merriment with uttermost peace with natural scenic beauty at its best. It is a time to rejoice the freshness and fragrance of the mother nature with its scenic beauty and plants blossoming. Here, I would rather consider April month as a sizzling summer day with scanty rain and scorching heat of broad day sunlight.

To welcome it as perfect spring month is out of question with temperature soaring high up to 38 degrees which is quite early.  The hot air entering the room can make anyone go fatigue with high humidity making the stay intolerable. Ceiling fan proving futile even at its highest rotation. People are left drenched in their own sweat and force to drink buckets of water to avoid dehydration. Most importantly, I have to be extremely careful and stay away from the skin rashes which is common in hot places.

I have seen my friends working in banks busy during their year closing. The situation out here with me is no different. Semester closing is right at my doorstep and got no time to toss my pillow like previous months. The days gonna be long and a tiring one. Submission of assignments, lab records, internal exams and project review are queued up to put me in action. I wished I was free in this month, nevertheless could not help being away from all these works.

April month will put me in terrible mental, but it is an appropriate time to burn down my calories. The fact that I will be back at home by first week of next month is boosting my morale and driving me to enthusiastically put efforts. The sunny days are awaiting for me and this is the consoling aspects of the current difficult situation. Friends are waiting for me to play football and booze together. Ah! can't wait any longer,   and let May come, delectable days are waiting to thrill me though April gonna employ me without any remuneration.
